The Medical Assistant performs medical and clerical tasks related to the arrangement of client care. Functions in accordance with regional, SMF Policies and Procedures, and care center requirements. Carries out all medical tasks under the instructions of a clinician.
Principal Accountabilities
- As required, operates in any SMF care center to optimally support patient care and organization needs.
- Helps clinicians and patients to guarantee efficient circulation constant with care center service requirements, consisting of AIDET to keep patients informed., i.e; hold-ups.
- Assists clinician with EHR In-Basket management for prescription refills, results, authorizations/referrals and non-clinical protected e-Messages in accordance with Medical Foundation standards.
- Assists in client education by providing educational pamphlet and after care directions, and/or after see summary as advised by the clinician or according to Medical Foundation Policy.
- Makes sure that exam rooms are tidy, stocked, and properly set up each day prior to rooming patients.
- Collects suitable documents and signatures needed to help the clinician in making treatment decisions, i.e. ABN types, Resilient Power of Attorney for Health Care and authorizations.
- Maintains client medical records by accurately recording actions and charting diagnostic test outcome. Gets and records test results and ensures that those outcomes are with the client’s medical record at the time of check out.
- Carries out diagnostic tests, administers medications, and collects/prepares specimens as directed by composed clinician orders. May communicate test results upon the composed instructions of the clinician.
- Prepares clients for proper exams/procedures by examining EHR health maintenance and disease management or patient chart for services and pends orders, when appropriate.
- Appropriately cares for medical devices and performs upkeep responsibilities
Credentials
MINIMUM CREDENTIALS REQUIREMENTS:
Education/ Understanding, consisting of Licensure/ Accreditation/ Registration:
Needed
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proof of graduation from a certified medical helping program as well as recorded evidence of 10 clock hours of injection training.
- Must have passed the SMF Pre-Screen Test for Clinical Assistants prior to hire. Should pass Basic Abilities Assessment yearly afterwards.
- AHA BLS Healthcare provider is required and must be kept.
- Knowledge of California Scope of Practice for Medical Assistants.
- Occupational Health: Needed BAT Evaluating, Drug Screens and Mask Fit Test certifications should be finished within 6 months of hire date.
Preferred
- Accreditation as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or eligibility for certification.
- California phlebotomy technician accreditation and experience may be wanted based upon scope of practice.
- Knowledge of scheduling practices/referrals for doctor workplaces.
Experience:
Combination of education and experience enough to carry out main obligations as would be normally acquired in a recognized Medical Assistant Program. Previous practical experience as a Medical Assistant in a physician’s office chosen.
Skills:
- Needs important believing skills and definitive judgment. Should be able to work in a complex, hectic environment and take appropriate actions.
- Must have the ability to work within established timeframes with attention to detail and precision.
- Must have computer abilities consisting of patient scheduling software application and EHR needed computer training.
- Excellent written interaction skills, consisting of precise grammar, spelling and punctuation.
- AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Period, Description and Thank You) is a structure for staff members to communicate with clients
in addition to with each other. Medical Assistants should be proficient and confirmed in AIDET and other service quality tools and techniques.
- Ability to handle several jobs effectively by establishing priorities and coordinate work activities.

- This position has access to protected health info. The secured health details this position can gain access to is demographic information, date of service information, Insurance/billing details, all medical record details. This position needs this patient health info in order to perform the functions laid out as part of this position description.
- Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to bend, press, pull and lift without restrictions. May be needed to perform recurring motions and raise to 30 pounds. Position requires great mastery in order to correctly blend and offer injections and/or carry out phlebotomy procedures on a patient.
