Medical Assistant


General Summary

The Medical Assistant works within his/her capability in supplying patient care as handed over by the center LPN/RN. Must be well organized, high level of professionalism, client service skills, information oriented, able to multitask efficiently, and carry out in a busy work environment.

Important Duties and Responsibilities

Offers direct interaction to patients in the clinic consisting of accompanying patients to rooms, acquiring crucial signs, EKG’s, verification of medications, allergic reactions, previous medical/surgical/family history and chief complaint/visit reason according to company choice, documenting precise information in the client chart in a timely way.

Routes phone messages, client questions, and telephone interactions to appropriate workers.

Functions as a basic intermediary in between doctor and patient calling clients with normal/abnormal test outcomes, answering concerns and assisting physician with return calls.

Assists with renewal and permission of medications, administers medications (oral, IM and SQ) as ordered.

Obtains blood samples and other specimens for screening as purchased.

Schedules consultations, surgical treatments, diagnostic procedures, and admissions as purchased by the supplier. Completes necessary documents, prior authorization, referrals and paperwork.

Monitors supply inventory, assuring adequate supplies, cleans and stocks examination areas.

Informs and establishes patients and/or guardian for the patient portal at the time of service and informs and informs clients regarding the advantages of registering for the client website.

Helps in orientating and training new medical assistants.

Meets dedications, works independently, accepts accountability, handles change, sets personal standards, stays focused under pressure, works as a group and assists all employee, and fulfills attendance/punctuality requirements.

Job Certifications

Education

Completion of a certified Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program required.

Work Experience

One year Medical Assistant or other medical expert experience chosen however not needed. Medical Center experience chosen.

Certification/License

Need to have the credentials of a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through an authorized accrediting organization, such as the American Medical Technologists (AMT), or have the ability to get credentials within 90 days of hire. American Heart Association Basic Life Assistance accreditation required.

Mental/Physical Requirements

Substantial mental concentration needed. Lifting up to 35 lbs., turning activities and almost continuous walking required. Standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to transmittable illness and hostile persons sometimes. Frequent direct exposure to contagious disease through blood and other body fluids. Very little physical discomfort.
